*** Be sure to check the coolant level when the engine is cold, removing the coolant cap when engine is hot, creates a risk of scaling***
The coolant system is a sealed system that holds between 20 and 22 litres of fluid. This should be made up of 50% coolant and 50% water, the system shouldn’t lose any coolant at all, but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check it now and again. It should be checked when your vehicle has its service too.
They do make it difficult to check the level through the header tank – you may have to remove the blue cap and check to see if you can see the level (sometimes it’s easier to shine a torch in). If you find that the coolant is low, you may well have a leak. A common problem is the header tank cap (coolant cap) itself. These have been revised several times over the years by Porsche as they leak. You may notice that there is condensation on the inside of the boot lid, above where this cap is. If that is the case you may need to replace this cap (3) with the latest revised edition. These are approx £15, which we can supply and we will fit FOC.
